Where is the lpt1 printer port

Most modern printers use the lpt port to connect. Included is a cable that connects from one side to this port, and from the other to the USB connector on the computer. But it is important to find this port to use the printer.

Printer port lpt1 location

In most models, the lpt-connector is located on the rear or side panel, next to the power port. If a black wire is needed for power supply (supplied, usually similar to the power cord for a computer and monitor), a thinner wire is required for the lpt port. Usually it is gray or white (less often black) and is connected to the USB connector of the computer.

Depending on the model

The required port is on the back panel for devices that print A4 paper and more. Most often, such devices are used in offices or at home. On the side panels, such connectors are used for devices in stores and retail outlets, for example, for printing labels or checks. Devices with a connector front and top panels almost never occur, because it will make the printing process inconvenient. The cable will constantly contact with the paper.

Reference! On the bottom panel, too, the connector does not, because then the device will not be able to stand on the table.

How to connect the printer via lpt1 port

To connect do the following:

  1. Insert the cable into the lpt-connector.
  2. Now you need a setting. Call the system menu. To do this, press the "Start" button.
  3. Select the section "Printers and Faxes".
  4. We will see a window with a list of connected devices. We need to find the printer icon that is being used.
  5. Click on this icon with the right mouse button.
  6. Select the item "Properties".
  7. Open the "Ports" tab.
  8. We define the port that is used.

If you install new equipment, do the following:

  1. Open the "Start".
  2. Select "Control Panel".
  3. Open the link "Printers and other devices."
  4. Deploy "Printers and Faxes".
  5. Specify "Install Printer". This command is on the window that opened on the left side.
  6. Skipping the first window of the wizard.
  7. Clicking "Next."
  8. Apply the checkbox next to the "Local". It appears on the second window of the wizard.
  9. Now you need to wait until the printer is determined automatically.
  10. If the wizard did not detect the connected equipment, click next and select the “LPT1” function :( Recommended port).
  11. Now you need to confirm the save changes. To do this, click the "Next" button. We carry out all subsequent recommendations of the master.

All the above steps can be done such when installing the driver for the device. Included is a disk with an application that automatically configures through the installation wizard. In this case, using the "Control Panel" is not necessary, everything will be done automatically. But this function is supported only by modern devices.

The equipment works through two cables. One of them allows the device to transmit the power needed for operation. The other transfers information from the computer (what exactly needs to be printed). It is for the latter case that the lpt-connector is needed, the corresponding cable is connected to it.
