DIY modular sofa

The sofa is a favorite place of all households. After a hard day, you want to lie down and read your favorite magazine or watch TV. But when among the variety of models presented in stores it is not possible to find a completely suitable version of this important element of the interior, the idea comes up to create it with your own hands. Is it possible to make such a design yourself?

What is a modular sofa? This is a construction of several blocks, in another way it is a corner sofa - it also consists of blocks, modules. The advantage of self-manufacturing is that you can choose the shape and number of product blocks. It is possible to construct a semicircular or round sofa - let it occupy the entire wall or be intended for the middle of the room. There are many options.

So, armed with a pencil to begin with, you need to draw a diagram of a future piece of furniture. It is necessary to clearly plan how many blocks, modules it will consist of. What transformation mechanism is supposed to be used in the design. This can be a "book", "Eurosof", "dolphin" and other options.

IMPORTANT! Take the planning stage with full responsibility, draw up a drawing of the future design, calculate the correct parameters.

Necessary materials and tools

First of all, you need to stock up with the right amount of materials and the necessary tools. Would need:

1. Jigsaw or hacksaw for wood.
2. A set of screwdrivers or screwdrivers with a set of bits.
3. Roulette or a long ruler.
4. Knife and scissors (for sheathing material).
5. A thin section machine or a set of sandpaper.
6. Furniture stapler with staples.
7. Self-tapping screws.

Necessary materials:

3. Plywood or chipboard.

7. Roller guides and the rollers themselves. (for the roll-out method of folding the sofa).
8. Durable thread (for screed sofa upholstery).

If everything you need is assembled and a complete drawing is made, you can begin to build a model.

IMPORTANT! All material for construction must be dry.

Sofa assembly steps

As in the design of any furniture, the basis of the sofa is the frame. That it is necessary to construct it first. Since this upholstered furniture consists of modules, there will be several product frames. There is no primary priority in the design of the model, you can start working with any of the modules.

To create a frame, use boards, bars and chipboard:

• fasten the parts prepared according to the drawing with the help of corners and self-tapping screws, for a more durable connection, you can use glue, coat the self-tapping screw with glue or grease the connection place of the parts;
• create wireframes of each block;
• smooth sharp edges with sanding paper.

The back is the second element of the frame. It is made of bars and fiberboard, then attached to the main part with screws and glue. In most designs, the back is not moving.

If the model has armrests, it is worth paying special attention to them. Arm yourself with a jigsaw and a chisel to create decorative armrests. If the design is folding, you need to assemble the movable part of the sofa.

Further:

• Foam or other filler should be placed on the main frame and back;
• fasten with a strong thread and glue, if necessary;
• you need to try to stack the filler evenly;
• attention should be paid to the individual parts of the structure - the backrest and armrests, in the places of their location the filler needs more.

Now it's up to the skin. Examine each detail individually and make patterns. Sewing skills come in handy here. Fasten the casing to the frame and back with a furniture stapler and pull it with a thread.

It remains to assemble everything into a single whole, to fix the transformation mechanism on the frame and the movable part of the sofa. If a withdrawable mechanism will be used, then it is necessary to screw the guides for the rollers to the inner side of the frame, and the rollers themselves on the sides of the movable part. In conclusion, you need to connect the blocks, modules of the sofa and install it in the right place in the room.
