  • chipboard;
  • plywood;
  • timber;
  • wooden pallets;
  • or several of these options together.

From various materials make a variety of models. The most simple, minimalistic products can be constructed from fragments cut from plywood, or from boards of large thickness, as well as pallets. But sophisticated furniture of an unusual shape is always a combination of several materials. For example, for a sofa-book you will need a beam, boards and chipboard.

IMPORTANT! Do not save on materials! High-quality varieties of wood combined with a good fabric will create a stylish craft item. And even a simple product, knocked together from boxes, will give the impression of a fashionable purchase in the "loft" style with upholstery made of leather, suede or expensive textile.

How to make a do-it-yourself sofa book

This practical folding model can be done by following the instructions.

Frame manufacturing

To do this, you will need:

  • timber with a section of 50x50 mm;
  • boards 25x200 mm;
  • thin wooden lamellas;
  • chipboard sheets 2.5 mm thick;
  • foam sheets not less than 60 mm thick;
  • the cloth.

First you need to fully assemble all the elements of the frame. Boxes are a rectangle of boards placed on one side and fastened together by nails or screws. For greater rigidity and stability of the structure between the boards, an additional timber is installed with a pitch of 500-600 mm.

The seat and backrest are two identical rectangular panels of timber, corresponding to the size and configuration of the box. On top of the timber frame, lamellas are attached with a gap of 50-100 mm. It is on them that the mattress will be attached.

Armrests are cut out of particleboard. The configuration may vary, however, the total width of these elements should slightly exceed the size of the boxes. On the inside, the armrests are additionally reinforced along the contour with a beam.

Assembly

Now the resulting elements need to be put together. You will need nails, screws, a special folding mechanism, sold in the hardware department.

IMPORTANT! The seat panels and backs in the open state must certainly have a gap of 10-15 mm between each other.

First, assemble the seat and backrest with the folding mechanism. Then connect them to the bottom of the structure. Armrests are added only after the last stage of work - upholstery.

Upholstery

In this process, the turn will come to use foam rubber, glue, textile covers. First of all, foam is glued to the back and seat. Usually for this, they first attach a thin layer of non-woven fabric or chipboard. In the same way, armrests on the inside are handled. A thicker layer of soft material is made in the upper part of the armrests and on the outer edge of the seat. Then all the elements of the sofa are joined together and put on a textile cover. A beautiful and comfortable piece of furniture is ready!

DIY corner sofa made of wood

This type of upholstered furniture does not provide for folding, so its design allows you to experiment.

IMPORTANT! Before starting work, it is worth drawing a sketch of the future product. Outline the frame, overall dimensions, height, width, shape.

The procedure for assembling a corner sofa has some features:

  1. Making the bottom of the structure. That is, the seat and frame, which provides stability and durability of things. At this stage, boards and timber can go into action. any section; pallets; sheets of plywood. The plane to which the seat trim is attached is made of chipboard or plywood.
  2. Mounting the back. It can be located at right angles to the seat or have a slight slope, so that it is convenient to recline. The material for this part of the work is usually a bar, boards, plywood or chipboard.
  3. Armrests. This model may not have them. But if you still do them, it’s worth acting on the same principle as when creating the side parts of the sofa-book.

IMPORTANT! Finished wooden elements should be soaked with stain or varnished - then they will turn out to be more beautiful and durable.

The upholstery stage using foam rubber, synthetic winterizer, textiles and glue is carried out according to the standard scheme already described above.

Self-made unusual sofa

One of the main advantages of independent furniture manufacturing is the ability to invent models of any configuration and style on the go. Below are some interesting ideas:

  1. Sofa with shelves. This can be done in many ways. One of the options applicable to sofas made of sheets of plywood of large thickness is to extend the seat plane instead of the armrest on one or both sides. Thus, it turns out that on the side of the mattress is a wooden shelf that can be used as a stand under a flower pot. Or like a coffee table. Another option is to make a narrow long shelf as a continuation of the back of the sofa. Artificially increase its thickness, due to the additional reinforcement of the frame.
  2. Backlight By stretching the LED strip behind or under the piece of furniture, you can visually make it easier and more interesting. In the dark, such products look very impressive.
  3. Sofa with drawers. In the lower part, between the elements of the frame, you can install boxes. Thus, the space of the room will be used more rationally. It looks rather unusual.

Perhaps your imagination will tell you more than a dozen options!

DIY rounded sofa

Curved sofas are also not particularly difficult to manufacture. First up:

  1. Cut out the seat panel. From such shields and should be cut out the seat panel. It will be convenient to do this according to a pre-prepared template. The design will be more stable if you duplicate the same panel for the lower part of the sofa frame.
  2. Make a wireframe. Now curved panels need to be strengthened with the help of the same timber and boards. A large number of transverse elements with a small pitch are a good solution.

IMPORTANT! For rounded furniture, the main thing is to choose the right material. It can be a good thick plywood or high-quality furniture panels.

Other stages of work - the creation of the backrest, armrests, upholstery - are carried out according to the same algorithm as in the previous cases. DIY sofa is an excellent solution for those who want to make their home more elegant and comfortable.
