For what reasons a freezer may not freeze

The freezer, like any electrical appliance, is prone to malfunctions. However, the incorrect operation of the device is not always evidence of a breakdown. Sometimes this is a consequence of manifestations of improper operation, subject to easy and immediate elimination, which can be extremely important for the safety of products placed in the freezer. What are the possible causes of malfunctioning freezing devices or their operation in a broken cycle?

In case of any malfunction in the functioning of the freezer, immediate measures should be taken to eliminate the malfunction. Timeliness and correctness of actions are important.

The freezer does not turn on

In this case, first of all, it is necessary to check the electrical network. If the outlet is working - the lamp that receives power from it is on, and when the device is turned on, the indication lights up, you can proceed to the diagnosis of the cooling system.

ATTENTION! Check the operating mode of the unit, it should be turned on for freezing.

Next, go to the thermostat. If it jammed in the off state, the electric circuit will not close and the camera will not begin to accumulate cold. Replace the failed assembly yourself, or call a service engineer.

The next step is to check the compressor motor. If for some reason it has become unsuitable, you must first replace it, and then determine what could cause the breakdown. If the freezer is quite old, the compressor may have simply run out of life.

The freezer does not freeze, but it is turned on

There are many reasons why the freezer, when turned on, does not freeze badly. Let's start with those that are easy to fix due to the absence of breakdowns per se.

  1. A large amount of high heat capacity content has been loaded into the camera. For example, you decide to freeze a lot of meat at once or cool the water. The amount of heat that needs to be removed is directly proportional to the difference in temperature (current and target), specific heat of the product and its mass. If the last 2 factors are of great importance, the device may not have enough power for cooling. You will need to unload the camera and fill it up gradually, as you freeze previously placed content.
  2. The same thing will happen when laying too warm products - the cooler will not cope with the removal of excess heat. The way out is pre-cooling the product naturally or in a refrigerator.
  3. Check the operation mode, maybe it is accidentally knocked down.
  4. The reason that the device does not freeze may be its forced shutdown by a thermal protective relay. It works when too high currents pass through the compressor motor winding, leading to overheating of the conductor. This can occur during prolonged continuous operation of the refrigerator or when it overheats from the outside. Your actions are to remove the camera from the direct sunlight and provide the necessary convection, if necessary, move the device away from the wall.
  5. The door is not sealed - close it more tightly, if this is not possible, most likely you will have to replace the seal.
  6. The freezer opens too often, resulting in a constant heating of the camera - change the access mode.
  7. The formation of large amounts of ice on the evaporator chamber. In this case, ice will prevent the spread of cold inside and in the area where the sensor is located, the temperature will not reach the set level. To prevent serious damage, you need to defrost the camera.
  8. Going beyond the temperature range corresponding to the climatic class of the device - turn on the air conditioner, ventilate the room or take other measures to reduce the ambient temperature to an acceptable level.

The following reasons indicate the failure of the apparatus, which requires repair work.

ATTENTION! Not only minor, but also quite serious malfunctions can be completely identified independently.

The formation of so-called thermal bridges in the insulating material of the equipment case between the outer and inner walls can lead to a parasitic discharge of precious cold out. This is due to moisture penetrating the skin. To eliminate this defect, it is necessary to change the area of wet insulation and seal the case.

The refrigerant circulation has been sealed - there is not enough media to remove the thermal energy from the chamber to the outside. The malfunction is determined by adding dye to the cold circuit. In this case, it is required to eliminate the leak and refuel the system with freon. Personally, such an intervention can only be carried out if you have the skills and special tools.

Clogging of the capillary tubes will also lead to the inability of the freezer to collect cold. It occurs during prolonged use without prophylaxis. To fix the problem, it is necessary to drain the refrigerant, change the oil, clean the system and refill it with freon.

If the compressor is faulty, the chest freezer or cabinet motor will work, however, by itself, no cooling effect will be observed in the chamber. The replacement of the failed unit is required.

Another type of failure that affects the intensity of freezing is the failure of the fan, which removes excess heat from the condenser radiator. The unit will operate continuously without the required heat transfer. Repair in this case is quite simple and not expensive - replacing the fan.

The freezer does not turn off

The freezer will work continuously if the temperature sensor does not feel the achievement of the required temperature level. Therefore, all the malfunctions indicated above (except for the incorrectly set mode) can lead to the camera not turning off, provided that the thermal relay of the motor does not reach the temperature at which a forced shutdown will occur.

Another reason for the continuous operation of the refrigerator may be a breakdown of the sensor, thermostat or safety thermostat. In this case, the problem can be solved by identifying the failed element and putting a workable part instead.

The freezer turns on and off immediately

If the freezer turns on for a few seconds, after which it turns off, this may be a symptom of a malfunction in the condenser.

It is also possible that the error is due to a problem in the motor. If its power is not enough, and it constantly overheats, a trip will occur on the operation of the thermal protective relay. Alternatively, try to provide more intensive cooling of the motor, but most likely it will have to be changed.

A quick shutdown of the device after a short start may indicate a malfunction of the control unit.
